About Thibault
Born Minneapolis, MN. 1980.
Lives and works between New mexico and california
Thibault has been making and exhibiting work for almost 20 years both in the US and abroad. Since coming out as queer and trans, Thibault was inspired to share their story, and use their art to heal themself and others.
In addition to exhibiting as an artist, Thibault has served as a Graduate Advisor for the School of the Art Institute Chicago and the California College of the Arts, a podcaster and moderator, and an as arts writer for various publications including their newsletters, Art Date and transport. Thibault received their MFA from the California College of the Arts in 2011, a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2007 and a BA from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in 2003.
Most recent shows include an exhibition with Col Gallery in San Francisco in November 2024. Past solo exhibitions include with Dreamsong Gallery in Minneapolis (2024,2022); Fahrenheit Madrid in Spain (2020); Casa Lu in Mexico City, Mexico (2020). Other recent shows include group exhibitions with: Eleanor Harwood, San Francisco (2024); Good Mother Gallery, Los Angeles (2023); The Pit, Palm Springs (2023); Personal Space, Vallejo, CA (2023); Sotheby's x Jerry Gogosian, New York (2022); Spring Break Art Fair, Los Angeles (2022).
Awards & Community-based Projects
Host & creator of The Side Woo podcast, a bi-weekly show about living a creative life which includes leading live talks in Los Angeles at Night Gallery, the Hauser & Wirth Artbooks store in DTLA, and San Francisco since 2021;
Recipient of The Space Program Residency, and Alumni Grant for $2500 to produce a talk at the ICA San Fancisco (2023);
Co-curator of monthly lecture series in the San Francisco Bay Area called The Painting Salon (2015-2017); Won an Alternative Exposure Grant for $5000 (2017);
Co-Director of Royal NoneSuch Gallery in Oakland, CA which was listed by Artsy as one of the top Bay Area artist-run spaces in the Bay (2015-2017); Won an Alternative Exposure Grant for $5000 (2016);
Inclusion in an exhibition with other California-based artists through the ART in Embassies program in Montevideo, Uruguay (2007);
Artist in Resident at residencies in Iceland, Portugal, Greece, London, Mexico City and the US (2018-present);
Teaching online career development workshops to artists (2022-present);
Host of a Reddit community for the first official Flip Phone February in February 2024 to help people reduce their smartphone usage. Was interviewed by Good Morning America about their participation, and had the Reddit community featured in The New York Times.
